Professional Highland Dancing Organizations

ScotDance Ontario is our regional affiliate for ScotDance Canada and the registrar for competitive dancers in Ontario.

ScotDance Canada is an Affiliated Member of the Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing (RSOBHD) and acts as the Registration Agent for Canadian dancers and competition organizers participating in the Worldwide Registration System.

Founded in 1892, the British Association of Teachers of Dancing (B.A.T.D.) is a UK based dance examination board of multiple genres, including highland. B.A.T.D. became the first dancing association to encourage the professionals of the day to organise themselves into a society to improve and develop the art of dancing, in many forms. It’s head office is in Glasgow, Scotland.

Founded in 1950, through the efforts of the major Highland Dance Examining Bodies, the Royal Scottish Official Board of Highland Dancing (RSOBHD) is a supervisory Board comprising delegates from the many different organizations involved in Highland Dance. The main function of the RSOBHD is to bring about co-operation between recognised associations, organisations, individuals and dancers connected with Highland Dancing. It lays down quality standards for all areas of highland dancing, including the standardising of dance steps for competition purposes, established rules for competitions and attire, and certifying competitions.

Founded in 1934, the Scottish Dance Teachers’ Alliance (SDTA) is a UK based dance association and examination board, with principal branches that include Highland. It’s head office is in Glasgow, Scotland.

Highland Hustle is a unique Scottish dance based workout with a feel good factor! Founded by Highland Dance Champion Gillian Urquhart Highland Hustle is an exciting dance fitness workout!
